Taking a Tour of Dunrovin

Recently, a guest on a private retreat stated, “I never knew about this place. It is like a gem so close to the city.”  So in this new year, we invite you through the front door on a tour to answer some frequently asked questions.

  1. Do any Lasallian Brothers still live on site? No brothers currently live on site. However, the Christian Brothers are still present in decision-making on the Board of Directors such as Br. Michael Lee Anderson and Dr. Scott Kier who represents the Christian Brothers of the Midwest District. Pictured above, the last brothers residing here until 2004 were Br. Richard Roller (now living in Chicago, IL), Br. Mark Gault (died in 2008), and Br. Ed Mason (died in 2007). We truly appreciate the times when current Christian Brothers are present in Dunrovin events.
  2. How old is Dunrovin? After being a country home, Dunrovin was purchased for the Lasallian schools Cretin, De La Salle, Hill, and Benilde. The groundbreaking ceremony was April 2, 1963, and the first retreat took place on Ash Wednesday, 1964. Here is more information on how Dunrovin began.
  3. How long does it take to get to Dunrovin from St. Paul/Minneapolis? We are located approximately 45 minutes from St. Paul and one hour from Minneapolis.
  4. Is there access to the St. Croix River? Yes, Dunrovin is located in the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway (a United States national park), and the river is a short walk from the main building. Private retreatants can also stay in the River Cabin. There are canoes and kayaks available to explore the pond or river. For those who enjoy hiking, there is a wilderness trail along the St. Croix River.
  5. Do you accommodate special diets? Yes, our cooks can provide dairy-free, gluten-free, or vegetarian meals.

Other questions can be answered in our brochure. However, the best tour is for you to come visit us in person!
