Ask and You Will Receive GIK

Ah, another acronym. What the heck does GIK mean? It translates as gifts in kind, which may not mean much to you, dear reader, if you are unfamiliar with NFPs. That means not-for-profit organizations (not natural family planning in this context). Lest I stray too far off topic….

Jesus gave us a command in Matthew 7:7 – “Ask and you will receive.” I am so uncomfortable asking. Only divine humor placed me in a job where I always ask for money and volunteers and a gently used car and GIK. After all, my German heritage instilled a work-hard-and-get-er-done ethic.

He wants to take care of me.

Yet….

Where is the line between my effort versus surrender to God? Saint Augustine put it another way when he wrote, “God provides the wind, but man must raise the sail.”

As we hear teachers express the needs of their students and observe societal stress, Dunrovin plans an expansion to begin in September 2025. The Dunrovin Servant Leaders is blossoming and will be ready to offer retreats to more students and partner schools.

So we humbly ask. Will you help us respond to God’s call? Your GIK can decrease Servant Leader Team expenses. Gift cards for food, fuel cards, and a gently used or new car would greatly help. Maybe you even have an unused Christmas gift card or two sitting around getting dusty.

“Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead of a fish? Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion? If you know how to give good gifts to your children (Dunrovin’s LEAD kids), how much more will the heavenly Father give to those who ask!” (Luke 11:11-13)

It feels uncomfortable to keep asking. But I am constantly amazed by the generosity and kindness of others. It confirms my belief that there is SO MUCH MORE GOODNESS IN THE WORLD than badness. People give from their abundance or their poverty. All is a gift.

We are grateful for all.

Now to Him who by the power of work within us can accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
